Midwest Public Risk (MPR) is a not-for-profit public entity established to provide coverage to other governmental entities in Missouri and Kansas for workers' compensation, property, liability and employee benefits needs. MPR is actually comprised of three separate self-funded pools: (1) Employee Benefits; (2) Workers' Compensation; and (3) Property/Liability. Members include cities, counties, special purpose local governments and school districts.
MPR originated as MARCIT in 1983, and the name was changed to Midwest Public Risk in July 2009. MPR is governed by three Boards of Directors which are MPR, MPR of MO and MPR of KS, Inc. Each Member entity appoints a member representative to determine and elect their respective Board of Directors.
The MPR Board appoints the President/CEO who is responsible for implementation and administration of MPR's programs and services. MPR provides its services with a small staff of insurance and risk management professionals, and we partner with various third party administrators and vendors for provider network access and claims and benefits administration.
MPR is "Member owned, Member focused." This is not just a slogan for us because our goals are to provide the products and services that our members need and want. Through various Advisory Committees, we invite our members and their staff to participate and develop action plans for enhancements in coverage, services and training. Members help MPR staff implement changes that can improve overall risk management, whether it is in employee's health and wellness, productivity or reduction of risks related to workers' compensation and liabilities. Member input and support of overall strategies is critical to the success of the pools.
